China Agri Wins Hong Kong Corporate Governance Excellence Awards 2009
Hong Kong, 2 December 2009 – China Agri-Industries Holdings Limited (“China Agri” or “the Company”; Stock Code: 606.HK), a leading producer and supplier of processed agricultural products in China, is granted the Award for Corporate Governance Excellence in the Hang Seng Composite Index Companies Category of this year’s Hong Kong Corporate Governance Excellence Awards co-organised by the Chamber of Hong Kong Listed Companies (CHKLC) and the Centre for Corporate Governance & Financial Policy of Hong Kong Baptist University.
Entering its third year, the award aims at fostering the highest standards in corporate governance, business ethics and board leadership in Hong Kong; recognising excellence in corporate governance of listed companies; raising the level of corporate governance; and promoting a strong culture of good corporate governance. The judging panel, comprising distinguished experts from the fields of regulation, financial, accounting, legal and academic, selected winners based on their performance in eight key corporate governance aspects, namely, corporate culture and leadership, shareholder rights, stakeholder relationship, board composition and structure, board performance, disclosures, internal controls and risk management, and accountability of management.
The judging panel reviewed that China Agri is critically challenged in its ability to maintain high standards in domestic and international regulatory compliance, particularly in environmental, hygiene, description and packaging requirements. That the Company has been able to maintain its high reputation both domestically and internationally is testament to its systems of internal controls and risk management and the oversight exercised by the board. The Judges were particularly impressed by the Chairman Ning Gaoning’s personal enthusiasm at staff training and his mobilization of board members who have equally enthusiastically responded.
China Agri is honoured to receive this accolade which applauds its continuous commitment to shareholder rights, compliance, integrity, fairness, responsibility, accountability, transparency, board independence & leadership, and corporate social responsibility.
The year 2009 is a fruitful year for China Agri, with a number of wins in corporate governance-related awards including the “Directors Of The Year Awards” from The Hong Kong Institute of Directors, the “Annual Recognition Awards” from Corporate Governance Asia magazine, and The Asset magazine’s “Triple A Corporate Governance Awards”.
